colleges are so ableist against people with dyscalculia. why should we have to take math classes or test into higher math classes just so we can qualify to take completely mathless courses like “Native Plants” or w/e?
I dunno about ableist but for real though man.
Yeah especially if you’re going into arts. I understand that it’s part of their ”rounded” liberal arts education or whatever, but some sort of exception should be able to be made, especially if grades in all other subjects are strong.
Colleges….well they don’t necessarily TRY to be discriminatory but they sure as hell are dinosaurs when it comes to just about everything. Change happens at about the rate of oceans drying up.

“You just need to try harder.”
“You’re only failing because you think you’re going to fail.”
“You just need to be more positive.”

Reblog because I think this is an important issue. Learning disabilities and mental illness are kind of similar in that, because they are something that isn’t physically OBVIOUS, that people can’t SEE, people just assume that it doesn’t actually exist, or that the person just needs to ”pull their socks up”. SIGH.
I’m sorry you have to go through this. But I admire you for not giving up. You keep on trying and trying, and that takes a huge amount of courage and perserverence.
I am SO EXCITED! I work tomorrow at 2 until 10. I’m going to try to get off work early because I have to leave at 2am ish to head to Moncton (which takes 2 hours) and then I have to wait for my flight with leaves at 6am! The first time I will ever be on a plane. We’re going to the Toronto Zoo and shit. FREAKING EXCITED. Just sayin. So I won’t be on for a week, but I will have loads of pictures to share :) I also have a goal to have my picture taken next to a giraffe. :D
